Until August 5th, Artcurial Culture in Saint-Tropez presents the exhibition Enki Bilal: Déchronos — Mémoire du Futur (Memory of the Future), inviting visitors to explore the artist’s surreal and futuristic visions. 

Enki Bilal, a renowned French comic book creator, artist, and film director of Yugoslav origin, was born on October 7, 1951, in Belgrade. He moved to Paris at an early age and quickly established himself as a prominent figure in European comic art. Known for his distinctive, dark, and surreal style, Bilal’s work merges surrealism, science fiction, and political commentary with vivid and often haunting imagery. Haize team is a long-time fan of Bilal’s universe, which has been a reference for many of our live experiences and inspired the creation of a limited capsule of 303 collectible T-shirts produced in collaboration with a legendary artist.

One of Bilal’s most notable contributions to the modern art world is his exploration of socio-political themes within the comic book medium. He has elevated graphic novels to the status of literary and artistic masterpieces, and his work continues to influence the art world today. His renowned pieces include the Dormant Beast series and the Nikopol Trilogy, which explore themes of dystopia, politics, and mythology. Over the years, he has authored numerous comic strips and exhibited his work in galleries worldwide. In addition to his comic work, Bilal has directed films such as Bunker Palace Hôtel and Immortal (Ad Vitam), showcasing his talent in visual storytelling across various artistic mediums.

The Artcurial Culture exhibition offers a fresh perspective on Bilal’s work. It features 70 pieces from different periods, providing a chance to delve into the world of this legendary visionary. Each piece Inspires reflection on universal topics, including the future of society, our actions, and life on this planet and beyond. Through Bilal’s work, the exhibition encourages us to critically examine contemporary society and current tensions, from serenity to disturbance, from the fear of uncertainty to the hope for better days to come.
